N N Rimzon

N N Rimzon

N. N. Rimzon studied sculpture at the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram and
subsequently joined Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda.  In 1989 he earned his MA from
the Royal College of Art, London. Rimzon gained international acclamation largely for his
figurative, mystifying, phallic sculptures in metal, fiberglass and stone. However, in recent
times, his sketches and drawings have been immensely extolled. Rimzon's early oeuvre
seems to echo the anxieties stemming from a leftist milieu in Kerala and his consequent
works divulge postmodernist discrepancies in their approach, but the socio-political
orientation remains to be of paramount importance. His solo shows include “I thank you once
again” at Talwar Gallery, New York (2016); “Liminal Embodiment, Seven Oceans and the
Unnumbered Stars” at Bodhi Art, New York (2007); “N.N. Rimzon: Works on paper”, Kashi
Art Gallery, Kochi, India (2005); Gallery Foundation for Indian Artists, N.N. Rimzon,
Amsterdam, Netherlands (1993).
